| The Rising Cost of Resin
At Regal, we are doing everything possible to minimize price
increases and to maintain market competitiveness.
Unfortunately the current rise in the resin market is now similar to
the level of increases during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Resin
is now up 18 cents per pound for the first three months of 2010 with
an additional 5 cents that was implemented on April 1st.
This recovery increase is due to energy and feedstock costs,
supply issues such as plant outages and equipment shutdowns, and
continued strong worldwide demand are the stated reasons for the
continuing increases.
Despite all signs that resin should be dropping (such as new
reactors coming on in Asia, historic lows in natural gas and a weak
domestic economy), the global chemical conglomerates continue to
send increases in unison and have strategically shut down reactors
to cut supply. It is our best interest to be loyal to our
customers and to keep from passing these increases a long. If
